5 Simple Ways to Repair Damaged Hair
If your hair is damaged, you don’t have to run to your hairstylist. Bring it back to life with these simple ways to repair damaged hair.
1. Apply Hair Oil or Serum
When your hair is dry or frizzy, or you have split ends, applying natural oil such as coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil, olive oil, etc., can give you shiny hair. They are moisturising agents and help to restore sheen to your hair by hydrating it and preventing breakage.
2. Wash Your Hair Less Frequently
Washing your hair too frequently can strip it of its natural oil. Hence, to salvage the problem, avoid washing your hair too frequently. It’s okay to wash your hair two or three times a week with warm water so it can regain its lost moisture.
3. Reduce the Heat of Your Styling Equipment or Use Them Less Frequently
Your heat styling equipment such as blow dryer, curling iron, straightener, etc., are good. They make your hair look more beautiful and sleek. But you should note that they can cause damaged hair. Hence, if you want to use them, you lower the temperature while at it. You can still get the job done while the temperature is at mid-range. While this is good, it’ll be much better if you use your heat styling equipment less often. That is, rather than blow-drying your hair all the time, you allow it air-dry.
4. Use Homemade Hair Mask
Using homemade hair mask is one of the simple ways to repair damaged hair. To do this, you can use fruits such as avocado, banana, lemon and egg too.
Eggs are a good source of protein and vitamins A, D and E needed to help your hair grow healthily. To use, mix egg white with lemon and apply on your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let it sit for 30 minutes before washing off with shampoo.
Furthermore, you can also mix your egg white with avocado to form a mask and apply on your hair. Avocado is one fruit rich in fatty acids, minerals and vitamins needed to give you healthy hair.
Moreover, if you don’t want the avocado or lemon egg mask, you can also use banana. Banana contains natural oils, potassium, carbohydrates and vitamins needed to moisturise your hair. To use, simply blend a ripe banana and mix it with olive oil. Afterwards, apply the mixture on your scalp and let it sit for 20 minutes before washing off with a shampoo.
5. Be Gentle with Your Hair When It’s Wet
Your hair is most delicate and prone to breakage when it’s wet. And as such, you should be careful how you handle your hair when it’s wet. When drying your hair, don’t rub it vigorously. Dry it with a fluffy towel or a soft t-shirt.
You also don’t have to comb your hair while it’s wet. Let it get damp or dry a bit. If you have to comb it while it’s wet, be gentle. Comb from tip to root with a wide-tooth comb.
Amongst others, always cover your hair to protect it from the harsh rays of the sun. If you’re going swimming, remember that there are chemicals in a swimming pool that aren’t good for your hair. Hence, the need to cover it.
With these simple ways to repair damaged hair, you can be sure your hair will grow and shine healthily.
