Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, popularly known as Peso Pluma, swapped his iconic mullet for a contemporary haircut featuring a clean short cut at the back and an open top. Though the new look widely differs from his previous hairstyle, it retains the edgy flair surrounding the Peso Pluma brand while exuding more sophistication.

The coiffure is birthed from his collaboration with Mexican singer, Kenia Os, for his album, Éxodo. Their song, titled Pamela & Tommy, pays tribute to Canadian-American actress Pamela Anderson and her Mötley Crüe singer ex-partner, Tommy Lee.

For the promotional photo, Kenia donned wavy blonde hair reminiscent of Pamela’s beautiful images while Peso Pluma’s new look cosplayed Tommy.

Peso Pluma’s Old Haircut—The End of an Era

Peso Pluma’s former haircut is a mullet with short, faded sides and blunt bangs. The cut is shorter at the front and sides and longer at the back. The singer customized the look by maintaining the shaved or faded sides and adding bangs, usually combed forward to almost cover his entire forehead.

Hassan’s signature mullet wasn’t just a hairstyle but a movement. It inspired a trend of mullets with bangs among many Mexican youth. Moreso, the story behind the trendsetting look adds to its intrigue.

Peso Pluma revealed on Jimmy Fallon’s show that the haircut “was a mistake.” The star was styling his hair in Medellin, Colombia, at the beginning of his career when serendipity struck. “I realized that they were cutting it the wrong way, but when I looked in the mirror, I thought that I didn’t look so bad. I kept it, and people went wild,” he shared with Jimmy Fallon. And that was how the Peso Pluma haircut became a major trend.

Writing has always been a part of me. From writing stories as a young child to studying Communication Arts in the university, it has always been more than a medium of expression to me.

And then one day, I found myself toeing the path of an entrepreneur and becoming a fashion enthusiast. This made me develop an interest in content marketing and copywriting which I've been chasing alongside my fashion career.

That aside, when I'm not sharing style articles, selling with stories, or creating fashion-forward pieces for Ria Kosher, you'll find me telling wild stories that always come with a twist.
