Designer of the Week: Prince NALA of NALA EkeNUMBO

Prince NALA is the creative director and CEO of NALA ekenUMBO, an eponymous fashion brand which is based in, but not limited to, Onitsha, Anambra. The brand began operations in 2016 although it was launched in April 2015. NALA spent his formative years in Enugu where he acquired his basic and tertiary education.

Ever since he was a child, fashion has been an integral part of his entire being. Fashion is one thing that keeps him working round the clock. It is his religion, relationship,, hobby, life, job and career.

He began his career as a designer after a period he fondly calls “Spiritual Awakening” when he took a major step towards actualizing his dreams to be the Next Rated Global Fashion Designer in mid 2014. Afterwards, he attended his first runway show as a guest before finally exhibiting in another runway show in Benin City, both in 2015.

The brand, NALA EkeNUMBO upholds the philosophy, “Inquiry into Advanced Methods”. In three years of its existence, it has experienced unprecedented success in the multi-billion dollar dynamic fashion industry. Since January 2016 till date, Prince NALA has won not less than 52 fashion related awards nationwide and beyond which includes 27 honors as Lead/Best Designer, plus not less than 25 award-winning dresses and scores of nominations nationwide.

Prince NALA has partnered with, supported, sponsored and participated in about 350 fashion shows within and across Nigeria including Lome, London, New Delhi, Atlanta and Seoul. The brand has grown into a popular figure in the Nigerian pageant industry with daily commendations and recommendations from clients within and outside Nigeria. Also worthy of note is the fact that NALA ekenUMBO has progressed into bridal couture, footwear, ready-to-wear, transcultural fashion, etc.

Aside from fashion, Prince NALA finds interest in environmental and human rights activism, agro-allied industrialization, interior decoration, non-fictional writing, tourism and many other yet to be discovered interests that, he believes, keep unraveling as he advances in life. He has also dreamed of breaking into the entertainment capital of the World, Hollywood, to express his designing prowess. He sees the iconic Gianni Versace as his godfather and mentor and owes his motivation and success to him.

Prince NALA describes his personal style as one controlled by his mood and the event in view. He is a great lover of dramatic, heavily- accessorized and colorful outfits. He is also a fan of nudity. Sometimes he feels style is never complete without revealing some skin.

He hopes to dress leading women in Hollywood on the Red Carpet of Oscars, MET Galas, Golden Globes, Grammys, VMAs, etc. Winning an Academy Award for Best Costume Design would be one of the biggest moments of his life. NALA EkeNUMBO is that fashion brand he is building to last into centuries.
