“If there’s one thing we can agree on it’s that the city of Uyo has embraced developmental progress,” I said to the guy dressed to the nines beside me at Uyo Fashion Week 2023. Since it was my second time attending the fashion show, one would think I should have known what to expect.
But yet again, Mae Edmonds, Fashion Entrepreneur and Convener of the show raised the bar a notch higher. I couldn’t help the bubbling feeling of excitement and pride that enveloped me.
From the street style looks to the hosts, Nancy Isime and Ebuka, stealing the hearts of their fans, and the runway show that dripped excellence with every collection, Uyo Fashion Week 2023 has cemented its place in the hearts of fashion lovers.
For this year, the theme of the event was Creativity, Commercialization, Scale. It was a celebration of entrepreneurial development and the diverse cultures of Nigeria’s ethnicity. As a whole, the event remains a deliberate attempt at exposing fashion entrepreneurs to the possibilities that abound in the industry.

Uyo Fashion Week: A Showcase of Nigerian Talent
UFW serves as a melting pot for Nigeria’s fashion talent, bringing together designers from different parts of the country to display their collections. The event which held at the Ibom Entertainment Center (Tropicana Mall) provides a platform for designers to experiment, push boundaries, and express their creativity. From avant-garde pieces to African traditional outfits, Uyo Fashion Week celebrates the rich diversity of Nigerian fashion.
The convener of the show Mae Edmonds left no stone unturned this year. We saw Nancy Isime and Ebuka Obi Uchendu take charge of their hosting duties for day one and two of the runway show. The event also made its mark with celebrities like IK Ogbonna, Chidi Mokeme, Emmanuel Umoh, and other A-list personalities in attendance.
Furthermore, the event’s activity-filled calendar kicked off with the Asian Fest, a music show filled with performances from stars like Johnny Drille, Sir Wilker Jackson, and ethnic group dancers who were on hand to thrill their audience.
The music show marked the beginning of a memorable fashion week. From there we saw a series of events like exhibitions and masterclasses on vital industry topics.
In the midst of this, the organizers thrilled attendees with a fireside chat and a thrilling panel session on having the right network for partnership and negotiation, especially in the fashion industry.

Topaz Bridals opened the Uyo Fashion Week with a collection exuding ethereal bridal beauty.

Just when we were recovering from the beauty of the first designer’s collection, Johnxzomo came and set the stage on fire with gorgeous male models rocking senator styles and well-tailored suits.

PoshGold’s exhibition presented stunning models in captivating, elaborate pieces that embodied grace, elegance, and the fearless spirit of a fashion-forward brand.
Ignition By Verge
Verge’s collection came with a lot of creativity and style. The looks featured on all models oozed a bold fashion statement as they strutted down the runway.
From the display, it’s safe to say the collection is a call for you to ignite the fashion world with Verge’s designs and embrace the flames of style while setting your own path ablaze.
Jevha’s Fashion
Jevhas Fashion spoke volumes with her fearless use of black. We saw bold looks that exuded strength and sophistication on the runway.
Her collection included beautiful fits for men and women, with the female models rocking gowns and stylish satin flowers that embellished them.

When the convener of the event is a fashion entrepreneur and a designer of excellence then you know you’d get nothing but class, elegance, and style depicted in her collection.
Mae Edmund’s collection feature chic Ankara styles in various forms such as classy long dresses, fashion accessories like flowery hats, gorgeous long pants, and capes, etc.
The Mebi Man
The Mebi Man’s collection featured suave men’s wear that depicted nothing but elegance. Each of them was tailored to fit the ideal man on any of his outings.
UFW23 is Over but the Thrill Remains
Apart from the fact that guests were visibly impressed, we felt a shift in the acceptance of fashion. Both young and old took out their time to attend the show, embracing all the creativity that comes with fashion as an art.
It was a show-stopping event that Uyo residents and many more Nigerians look forward to seeing every year. Indeed, Mae Edmunds has written her name in the sands of time with Uyo fashion week.
