Your eyes are very essential parts of your body. They are the light of your body. If you don’t take care of them, you stand the chance of getting them discoloured or suffer defect. While this post centres on the inside of your eyes, you should note that the skin around your eyes matter and as such if there are dark circles around your eyes or they seem puffy, you need to do something about them.

Meanwhile, If you’ve got brown, red, yellow, irritated or itchy eyes, here are easy steps on how to whiten your eyes.

1. Drink Enough Water

You’ve heard this almost everywhere, I bet. The importance of water to your body cannot be overemphasised. You need to drink at least six to eight glasses of water every day to stay fit even without exercising, improve your skin complexion without bleaching and whiten your eyes. Water naturally detoxifies the body, flushing off toxins and unwanted properties.

2. Eat Fruits and Vegetables

Include fruits and vegetables in your diet. They are rich in vitamins and serve as antioxidants to keep your eyes looking white. They also help to detoxify your liver, making your eyes brighter.  Fruits such as oranges, lemons, carrots, etc, and green vegetables will do the magic.

3. Get Enough Sleep

When you sleep, you relax your eyes since most of the time they are just as busy as you are during the day. Sleep for at least seven to eight hours every day to prevent and get rid of dark circles. While resting adequately, you can also raise your head up on extra pillows to prevent fluid from gathering under your eyes making them swell or look puffy. Cucumber also works well in taking care of the skin around your eyes.

Furthermore, if you spend time on your computer or phone screen daily, take eye breaks regularly. You could drop your laptop or smartphone then shut your eyes for at least 20 minutes before going on with your work. You can as well blink for some seconds to spread your natural tears evenly over your eyes.

4. Avoid Smoke, Dust and Other Irritants

These stuff are harmful to your health in general. They make your eyes look dry and change its colour.  Avoiding them will help to restore the natural colour of your eyes and as well help your eyes stay hydrated.

5. Minimise Intake of Salt

Too much consumption of salt can retain water in your body. And when water retains, inflammation can occur around your eyes. Too much salt also increases your blood pressure. To prevent this, reduce your intake of salt to one teaspoon per day.

Another tip on how to whiten your eyes is to protect them from the harsh rays of the sun by wearing sunglasses. The sunglasses will protect your eyes from the Ultra Violet rays that can damage your eyes over time
