Let’s start with the basics: who is a baddie?

Among the definitions Urban Dictionary gives for this term, one stands out for us:

“A baddie is a girl who is super attractive. She slays whether she’s wearing a tight dress or sweatpants. She has curves in all the right places. She has self-respect and fights for what she believes in and like having fun. From a Good Little girl that nobody thought was going nowhere to a Baddie that is Successful in life; a female who can hold her own and take care of herself. She is very pretty, and independent.”

In other words, baddies are effortlessly beautiful, confident, and hot boss babes. They set trends, are proud of their skin, invest in quality hair and makeup, and wear the chicest clothes.  They’re those girls you look at, admire, then hit “follow” on Instagram.

Now that we’ve settled who a baddie is, let’s proceed to the question this heading aims to answer:

Baddie outfits stem from the baddie aesthetic. It’s a type of aesthetic outfit common among female Instagram users (particularly influencers). It involves being conventionally attractive by contemporary beauty standards in terms of body shape, makeup, hair, clothes, and accessories.

Baddiecore has three watchwords: sexy, chic, and edgy. Most clothes under this aesthetic ooze class while showing some skin.

In addition, the baddie aesthetic draws influence from celebrities such as the Kardashian/Jenners, Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Saweetie, etc. Furthermore, YouTube beauty creators and popular Instagram models and influencers set the pace for this aesthetic.

Types of Baddie Aesthetics

Though most baddie outfits give the same vibe, the aesthetic has different subgenres which include:

Drugstore Queen

This is one aesthetic that involves looking baddie-stylish on a budget by using drugstore items. These items such as skincare products, makeup products, and hair accessories are usually cheaper than the more expensive baddie looks.

Insta Baddie

This baddie aesthetic is the most popular. It’s common among Instagram and Youtube content creators. It focuses on being beautiful while enhancing one’s sex appeal. Most girls who wear Instagram baddie outfits become brand ambassadors for clothing and beauty brands.

Luxurious Baddie

This baddie style focuses on wearing expensive or luxury items from brands like Gucci, Prada, Dior, Fenty, etc. This is what differentiates it from the drugstore and Instagram baddie aesthetics. Most A-list female celebrities fall under this category as they have the money to splurge on luxury brands.

Your Starter Pack for Creating Baddie Outfits

It may seem impossible to achieve the baddie aesthetic, but it’s a lot easier than you think. You just have to work with the following items and you’ll be good to go

Casual Fits

Baddies wear casual outfits in a standout way. So if you wanna look like them, cop high fashion streetwear items such as crop tops, sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts, cargo pants, camo, jeans (ripped, high-waisted, distressed, flared, or tight-fitting), leather pants, bodysuits, turtlenecksco-ords, etc.

Mix and match different textures like baggy tees or sweaters with fitted denim. And when you get stuck, coordinate your outfit by wearing a two-piece.

Bodycon Dresses

What’s a baddie without a tight-fitting dress that accentuates her silhouette? Nothing! You need to embrace your shape, show off ‘em curves, and wear baddie outfits that bring out the best in you.

If you’re not on the curvy side, it’s not a problem. Get shapewear or opt for corset to cinch your waist and give you an illusion of a curvaceous body. In addition, if you don’t want to wear tight-fitting clothes all round, mix textures. For instance, pair your tight-fitting top with loose bottoms or wear a body-hugging dress with a loose jacket. Anything works.

Baddie Outfits that Show too Much

Baddies are confident enough to show some (or plenty of) skin whenever they dress up. From wearing skimpy dresses to crop tops, bum shorts, plunging necklines, backless dresses, and even bathing suits, they’re proud of their body and aren’t afraid to flaunt it.

You too should do the same. But first, determine how daring you’d like to go. For instance, if you aren’t comfortable baring your bum in a bikini, you can layer your swimsuit with a kimono or any cover-up. And if you wouldn’t like to show your sideboob or cleavages, stick to dresses that show your thighs instead.

Flawless Skin

Another ingredient that makes great baddie outfits is good skin. Baddies invest in good skincare products. They understand their skin is a reflection of what goes on inside their body and strive to adopt a healthy skincare routine while eating and drinking right too.

Start by considering your skin type before settling for any product. This will ensure you don’t waste money on the wrong products. Moreso, you don’t have to go for the most expensive skincare brands. There are over-the-counter products you can buy on a budget without breaking the bank.

Quality Hair for Baddie Outfits

Your baddie outfit isn’t complete if you’re not wearing quality hair, be it expensive weaves or gorgeous braids like peekaboo braids, braided wigs, cornrows, or any fanciful hairdo. You should also explore different hair lengths and colors too (mostly black, blonde, or any bold color you prefer). In fact, by their hair, you shall know a baddie. And if you want to imbibe this aesthetic, invest in beautiful hairstyles too.

Makeup on Fleek

When you look at a baddie’s picture, one of the first things you’ll notice is that her eyebrows are always well-drawn and her lips are either in glossy, nude, or bold shades.

Emulate this when next you have an outing and plan to take pictures. Your makeup should always be on fleek; subtle yet bold in a classy way. You can start by investing in drugstore (cheaper) makeup products instead of aiming for the really expensive ones at once.

Statement Accessories Make Baddie Outfits

Your baddie outfits are never complete without some accessories punctuating them. So consider adding statement jewels, perfume, sunglasses, bucket hats, scarves, fake nails, wristwatches, bracelets, anklets, hair accessories, etc., to your look.

They’ll help transform a boring casual fit into a statement outfit.

Expensive Suits

You may think baddies are all about showing their skin and body. But that’s not true because when these ladies suit up, they look classy and expensive!

So, never fail to wear a suit when you need to exude power.

Bold Colored Baddie Outfits

Baddies are daring and so should you be. So, don’t be scared to wear more colors through your clothes and accessories.

Wear colors such as black, red, camo, beige, white, pink, green, purple, and other colors that speak style.

Chic Shoes to Complete Your Baddie Outfits

Baddies seldom wear flats unless they’re for casual hangouts. Their favorite footwear include includes sandals, crocs, sneakers, chunky-soled heels, pumps, stilettos, combat boots, thigh/knee-high boots, etc.

So, ensure your shoe aesthetic is a combination of sporty, classy, and street-style vibes for a versatile look that works best with any outfit.

Badass Shots

What shall it profit a baddie who dresses to slay but never takes photos? You know the answer. It’s your photos that’ll award you fans and followers. So, always take pictures. But don’t just take photos.

Ensure you do so in picturesque locations like expensive restaurants, hotels, gardens, etc. And most importantly, strike alluring poses that ooze class.

Easy-Peasy Ways to Nail The Baddie Aesthetic Look on a Budget

If you still think you need loads of money to look like a baddie, I’m here to tell you you’re wrong. You only need the money you can afford and everything will fall in place. How? By doing this:

Do it Yourself

Take care of your nails, hair, skin care, and hygiene in general. Furthermore, rather than spending much on regular beauty visits, glam up yourself. Adopt a feasible skincare routine, use affordable makeup products instead of high-end ones, and learn simple makeup tricks. This will help you improve your makeup and styling skills and that’s a win-win.

Opt for Thrift Clothing

Looking expensive doesn’t mean you have to buy from expensive brands all the time. You just need to know how to style your clothes. In fact, that’s the trick to looking like a baddie.

So, give thrifting a chance. You never know what you might find when you buy secondhand clothes. Furthermore, take advantage of sales when brands like Shein, Nastygal, Missguided, etc., offer them.

Wear Colors, Mix and Match Patterns & Prints

Baddies do what regular girls don’t do. They wear colors everyone else would arch their brow at instead of trying. They also explore different prints (floral, polka dot, checkered, plaid, etc) in one outfit.

Inculcate this whenever you dress up regardless of what you’re wearing.

Imbibe Body Positivity

You don’t need to have an hourglass figure to achieve that baddie look. Whether you’re slim or plus-sized, you still can be a baddie. You just have to love yourself and feel confident in your body. In addition, always wear clothes that flatter your body type and colors that enhance your skin tone.

The baddie aesthetic is for every woman willing to jump on it.

Upcycle Your Old Clothes to Create Baddie Outfits

Don’t throw or give out your clothes when you get tired of them. Instead, upcycle them into one-of-a-kind pieces. For instance, you can create skirts and cutout tops from dresses, shorts from jeans, and crop tops from hoodies.

A Baddie is Her True Self

While these tips are crucial for nailing the baddie aesthetic, the one piece of advice you need is to be yourself. So, don’t become someone else just because you want to look like a baddie. If you spend so much time trying to be someone else, you’ll get stuck in a facade and that’s not the essence of baddiecore.

If it isn’t your style, there are a million and one fashion styles for you to adopt. Embrace your true self and only wear stuff the inner you would be proud of and comfortable in.

Writing has always been a part of me. From writing stories as a young child to studying Communication Arts in the university, it has always been more than a medium of expression to me.

And then one day, I found myself toeing the path of an entrepreneur and becoming a fashion enthusiast. This made me develop an interest in content marketing and copywriting which I've been chasing alongside my fashion career.

That aside, when I'm not sharing style articles, selling with stories, or sketching fashion-forward pieces for Ria Kosher, you'll find me telling wild stories that always come with a twist.
